The Ultimate Time-Hopping Spectacle

Fast. Funny. Over the top. Out of Time is a bold musical adventure that redefines what a revue can be at sea. Created exclusively for Virgin Voyages, the show whisks audiences on a time-traveling journey led by the eccentric Dr. Victoria Vortex, her not-so-trusty sidekick Dr. Tempus, and their wisecracking droid, T.I.M.M.

When their experimental “Timecrowave” malfunctions, the audience is thrown into chaos jumping from prehistoric jungles with dinosaurs to roaring speakeasies, disco dance floors, and even an alien rave. Along the way, guests go toe-to-toe in a karaoke showdown with da Vinci, surrounded by wall-to-wall pop hits, dazzling choreography, and nonstop comedy.

Big, silly, and full of surprises, Out of Time leaves audiences saying: “I’ve never seen that on a cruise ship before.”

Objective

Virgin Voyages wanted a musical revue, Virgin-style: a 40-minute show that took the familiar format and turned it completely on its head. They asked for something quick, bold, unforgettable, and nothing like the industry standard.

The Red Room already featured 9 moving LED walls and 5 stage lifts. Our challenge was to harness those tools in fresh, unexpected ways turning the venue into a time machine where the set itself became part of the story.

Challenges

  • Predetermined Casts – Choreography and narrative had to stay flexible enough for multiple rotating ensembles.
  • Complex Technology – Every move of the LED walls and lifts had to be pre-mapped, with choreography, video content, and cues locked before stepping into the venue.
  • Production Time – With limited rehearsal time in the Red Room, our team arrived with blocking, content, and choreography fully tested and production-ready.
  • Custom Scenic Builds – From a 12-foot T-Rex head to a nine-foot raptor costume, oversized scenic elements pushed the limits of design, shipping, and installation.
  • Costume Fabrication – Over 100 original costumes were designed, built, and fitted across casts, balancing bold style, functionality, and Virgin’s signature flair.

Result

Delivered on time, on budget, and with roaring audience response. By integrating advanced staging technology with high-end video, original costumes, and bold scenic builds, Out of Time created a spectacle that feels completely new in the cruise entertainment space.

This production is a showcase of how we reimagine existing tools and transform them into storytelling devices that elevate both the comedy and the spectacle. The result: a show that is fast, flexible, and unmistakably Virgin.
